Former Cedar Falls Pageant Organizer Accused of Sexually Abusing Second Girl

The following information was provided by the police. It does not indicate a conviction.

A man who organized pageants and coached in Cedar Falls and was previously charged with sexually abusing an 11-year-old girl is facing new charges.

Gary Lee Alexander, 61, of 1127 Maplewood Drive, No. 5, Cedar Falls, was arrested Tuesday on four new counts of third-degree sexual abuse.

He was already waiting to stand trial for charges of second- and third-degree sexual abuse. In that case, he is accused of abusing an 11-year-old from 1998 until 2005.

Police said the new charges stem from information uncovered during the investigation against Alexander, who previously ran beauty pageants and coached an after-school girl's basketball team.

He was first arrested in January, when police said they searched his cell phone and found hundreds of photos of young girls.

Police were able to identify one of the girls, who told investigators Alexander had told her he wanted to be her coach and pageant manager. Police said the girl had been abandoned by her parents and was moving from place to place. According to the police report, Alexander met her was she was 12 and gave her clothes and money but allegedly wanted sex in return.

The girl told police the encounters continued until she was 16, and that on three occasions Alexander allegedly drugged her and had sex with her. She said he could become violent if she didn't want to have sex, once pulling a knife and another time slamming her into a wall.

Alexander remains in jail on $450,000 bond.
