Obituary: Former Cedar Falls Pastor Dies in Motorcycle Accident

Kenneth Wayne Horton, who was a pastor at Cedarloo Church of Christ from 1987 to 1992, passed away in Texas Monday.


A former Cedar Falls pastor died Monday in a motorcycle accident in Texas.

Kenneth Wayne Horton, 64, of Abilene, Texas, was the pastor of Cedarloo Church of Christ in Cedar Falls from 1987 to 1992. People are invited to share memories at 8 p.m. Wednesday at Cedarloo's auditorium, 3710 Loma St.

According to Abilene Police reports, no charges are being filed in the accident, which involved a collision of Horton's motorcycle with a car driven by Lisa Roberson, 50, of Abilene.

Funeral services will be on Thursday, June 28, 2012 at 10:30 AM at Hillcrest Church of Christ. David Noles of Levelland, Texas will be officiating. Interment will be at Elmwood Memorial Park under the direction of North’s Funeral Home. A visitation will be at North’s Memorial Chapel, 242 Orange Street, on Wednesday, June 27, 2012 from 6:00-8:00 PM.

Wayne was born on October 11, 1947 in Plainview, Texas, to Claud and Mae Horton.

He was so proud and humbled to be a Minister of the Gospel of Jesus Christ for over 3 decades. He was also a Texas State Prison Chaplain for 8 years. Wayne and his wife Carol blessed so many churches and countless people throughout the years. He will be greatly missed.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Claud and Mae Horton.

Wayne is survived by his wife, Carol, his sisters Louise and Betty, his brothers Leon and Raymond, his sons, Mike, Ken, and Landon and their wives, and five grandchildren.
