Name:Â Jozsef Gitta
Age: 57
Background? (Job, credentials, experience, etc.)
Self employed as a business consultant (JG Business Services). Past employment include Director of MIS, VP of Operations, Director of Store Systems.Â
Why did you decide to run for the school board?
I felt my 30 plus years of experience in implementing technology solutions for large and small enterprises could be useful. I also have a son, Wesley, in the ninth grade.Â
What do you see as key issues the Cedar Falls School District needs to address? How should we start?
We face growth challenges and aging and obsolete buildings, there is a wide gap in staff and student technological competencies, technology is not used as consistently as needed by students and staff. Â There also may be the challenge of overcoming the "good enough" syndrome.I would encourage and recommend hiring a technology visionary and form an active committee with goals and deadlines to bring our district up to speed on modern day techniques. Â I would also challenge us to explore better ways to "grade" our students. Â I believe the grade by age system is outdated and should be scrapped.Â
What is your feeling on the facilities issue the district is facing, especially regarding the high school?
Â
And… questions from our readers:
Â
From Jill: If you had been on the board last year, would you have voted in favor of renewing Mike Wells contract?
Not having enough information I could not answer that.  I do believe however, that the board does not vote without careful consideration, and I support their decision. ÂÂ
From AJ:Â Do you believe that student representatives should continue serving as a non-voting member to give points of view on the issues?
Absolutely! Â Maybe Parent Organizations presidents also.----------------------------------------
