UNI to Host Lecture on Social Responsibility and Hunger

The University of Northern Iowa will host theologian and social activist Ronald Sider as part of the "Reaching for Higher Ground" series from 7 to 8:30 p.m., Monday, Oct. 21, in the Lang Hall Auditorium.

Sider will lecture on "Social Responsibility & the Crisis of Hunger," which addresses the persistence of hunger in this country and the world and what can and should be done about it. He is a distinguished professor at the Palmer Theological Seminary and author of "Rich Christians in an Age of Hunger." Sider is also the founder of Evangelicals for Social Action, a group that seeks to develop biblical solutions to social and economic problems.

The event is in conjunction with the "Reaching for Higher Ground" series. Last year, the series focused on "The Search for an American Dream" through questions of social justice, education and economics. This year's theme is "Food Matters." Speakers and films will explore why food is an important topic, and how food-related decisions have a global, national and local impact.
