Weather: Will We Have a White Christmas?

The National Weather Service reports that eastern Iowa can expect plenty of precipitation this week, leading into Christmas. However, temperatures are expected to stay above freezing during daylight hours, meaning we could see a mix of rain and snow.

In a touch-and-go weather outlook issued Sunday evening, the National Weather Service said that we may get precipitation every day this week until Thursday. A few days of spotty showers may turn to snow with dropping temperatures over nights, including Christmas Eve.

The forecast for Cedar Falls showed the following:

• 80-percent chance of rain Sunday night with a low of 35. Rain/sleet continuing Monday until 3:00 a.m.
• A high of 38 Tuesday with a chance of rain, turning to a 30-percent chance of a half inch of snow overnight.
• 20-percent chance of snow Wednesday and a clear Wednesday night.
• Sunny and 36 on Christmas Day Thursday.

While the forecast looks optimistic in regards to travel, it does not look likely for us to wake up to a white Christmas.
