Iowa Driver Dies After Ferrari Slams Into Home

Authorities say the collision late Tuesday happened when the driver missed a curve and lost control of the 2013 Ferrari Spider.

MAYSVILLE, IA — A single-vehicle crash that happened when a driver slammed into a home northwest of Davenport killed the driver. The collision, reported about 11 p.m. Tuesday, caused a fire in the home that burned well into Wednesday morning.

The Scott County Sheriff's Office said the crash happened when a 2013 Ferrari Spider, driven be Kelly Phillip DeWulf, 58, of Wheatland, slammed into a home near Washington Street and Maysville Road, KWQC-TV reported.

Emergency personnel had received a call around 11 p.m. Tuesday reporting an explosion at a home. When they arrived, they found DeWulf dead in the vehicle and the home on fire. There were no passengers in the car.

KWQC reported that first responders indicated the driver appeared to have missed a curve, leading to the crash. The collision triggered an explosion at the home and the fire that followed and burned throughout the night and into mid-morning Wednesday.

The TV station reported the homeowner was not injured.
