How to Protest:Â
- While viewing your property on assessor’s website, scroll to bottom of page, click Appeal Assessment link, follow all directions and submit protest form online.
- Only available from April 2 through April 30 annually.
- Before a formal protest, property owners have the right to discuss their new assessment informally directly with appraisal staff. If an agreement can be reached, this eliminates the need to protest formally with the Board of Review.
- Simply email or phone the Assessor’s Office. Staff will do an informal review and answer any questions about your assessment. If property owner proves a change is warranted, the assessor can make the adjustment.
- Only available from April 2 and April 25 annually.
- For more information on the assessment appeal process, go to County Assessor website, www.scottcountyiowa.gov/assessor, see menu on left side of page, Protesting.
- Consider providing documents in advance of your hearing.
- Emailed forms are accepted, as long as meet all other criteria.
- General emails are also accepted as long as meet all other criteria. At minimum, email must be timely filed, identify property, give reason for protesting, identify protestor, and provide protestor’s contact information.Â
- Board of Review appeal forms are also available on IDR website at: https://tax.iowa.gov/forms/petition-local-board-review-regular-session-56-064
