Arrest Made In Des Moines Arson Fire

No one was injured in the fire Wednesday night at a north-side home.

DES MOINES, IA — A Des Moines man has been arrested in connection with a fire Wednesday night at a Des Moines home that officials have determined was arson. Jesus Alberto Pena, 22, remains in the Polk County Jail today in connection with the case.

Firefighters were called to 1316 Euclid Ave. at about 9:30 p.m. Jan. 3. They reported smoke and flames were visible from the house when they arrived. WHO-TV reported that investigators say the fire was set intentionally.

Pena was a resident of the home, which is owned by his father, WHO reported. Other residents were not home at the time the fire began.

A motive for starting the fire is unknown and no estimate of damage to the home was available.

Pena, listed as a resident of Saylor Township in jail records, is being held on $10,000 bond.
