Coronavirus Spring Cleanup: Big Turnout Expected For 1st SCRUB Event In Des Moines

DES MOINES, IOWA – Thursday – The City of Des Moines will host the year’s first SCRUB event on Saturday and Public Works Director Jonathan Gano said a big turnout is expected because of the COVID pandemic.

“As we come out of a long cold dark winter, everyone’s thoughts immediately turn to spring cleanup. The easiest way to do that in Des Moines is through our free drop-off SCRUB events,” Gano said. “With a lot of people spending time at home this past year, there have been more opportunities to get ready for a spring cleanup, and we expect that to turn into a busy SCRUB event on Saturday.”

SCRUB stands for Spring Cleanup to Reduce Urban Blight and the season’s first event is Saturday, Mar. 20 at the MWA Transfer Station for debris drop off and the MWA Compost Center for yard waste. For additional information and guidelines about SCRUB, go to DSM.city/SCRUB.
