Des Moines Teen Avoids Murder Trial With Manslaughter Plea
The plea deal reduced the charge of first-degree murder in the February 2017 case to voluntary manslaughter.

DES MOINES, IA — A teenager charged last April with the death of a Des Moines man avoided a murder trial by entering an Alford plea in the case, WHO-TV reported today. Dequavius Robinson, 17, had been charged with first-degree murder and first-degree robbery in the death of Augustin Kouh in February 2017.
The body of Kouh, 20, was found in the 800 block of Shawnee Avenue. A second man had been shot, but he recovered. Robinson also was charged with attempted murder, WHO-TV reported.
Robinson, who was 16 at the time of his arrest, accepted the Alford plea on charges of voluntary manslaughter and two counts of first-degree robbery, according to WHO. He will be sentenced in March.

An Alford plea means the suspect does not admit guilt in the case, but recognizes that there likely would be enough evidence for a conviction.
