Des Moines, Iowa – In observance of the Juneteenth holiday this Saturday, most City of Des Moines offices will be closed on Friday, June 18. There will be no delay in collection of garbage, recycling or yard waste.

All Des Moines Public Library branches will remain open in order to educate people about the holiday and celebrate the important historical milestone for our country. We invite all community members to visit DMPL.org/Juneteenth or visit a library location to learn more about the history of Juneteenth, slavery, American Civil War and Emancipation, and civil rights movements.
In addition, there are multiple ways to celebrate and explore Juneteenth in Des Moines. Here’s a few opportunities to consider:

TAKE NOTE: Following the holiday weekend, the City Clerk’s Office, the Permit & Development Center and the Neighborhood Inspections Division will be closed until 10 a.m. on Monday, June 21 to facilitate a permit and license software upgrade.
