Powerball: Jan. 6 Winning Numbers

DES MOINES, IA — The jackpot for tonight's Powerball drawing is $570 million, with a cash payout of $358.5 million.

The numbers drawn were 12-29-30-33-61. The Powerball is 26.

Another Iowa Millionaire

Iowa's latest Powerball millionaire, whose good luck hit on the Dec. 30 drawing, turned his winning lottery ticket in at Iowa Lottery headquarters on Friday. George Dickerson of Colfax won $1 million on a Powerball ticket he purchased at Kum n Go in Colfax — just a few minutes before the sales cutoff.

Dickerson, 57, almost didn't get a ticket after he waffled about going out in the cold, then when he did go for a ticket, the lottery terminal wasn't working at the first store he tried.

But he said his luck now has turned around. In 2010 his business, Dickerson Mechanical, nearly closed after he lost everything in a devastating flood.

It took him years and a lot of money to recoup his losses, and coincidentally he credits another lottery winner for helping him stay afloat. Dickerson said Brian and Mary Lohse, the Bondurant couple who won more than $202 million in 2012, used his company for all the mechanical work at their house.

"We probably would have went broke if it wasn't for the Lohses," Dickerson said. "He just kept giving us more and more" work."

"Brian and Mary have been really gracious to us," Dickerson said, adding: "I asked him why he picked me and he said, 'Well, you had tough luck, and I have the opportunity to keep it local."

While the flood wiped out his retirement savings, Dickerson said, a $1 million lottery check makes retirement more of a reality now.

Dickerson purchased $40 in Easy Pick tickets and matched the first five numbers drawn on his winning ticket, but missed the Powerball number, to win the $1 million prize.

He said he'll continue to play Powerball and predicts he'll be back for another big check.

"You have to have luck in life," he said. "I just assumed I would hit the big one, because I'm kind of lucky about them things."

Mega Millions Winning Ticket Sold

One person holds a $450 million winning ticket in the Mega Millions game after Friday night's drawing. The winning ticket was sold in Port Richey, Fla. The jackspot had been building since it was last won in October. Lottery officials said the prize was the fourth largest ever in the game.

Winning numbers in the Jan. 5 Mega Millions drawing were 28-30-39-59-70 with Mega Ball 10.
