Restaurants Being Scaled Back In 7 Area Hy-Vee Stores

New Market Grille Express locations will have breakfast and lunch/dinner menus that are scaled back from current offerings.

Changes are coming to the Market Grille restaurants located inside several Hy-Vee grocery stores, the company has announced. Seven stores will see conversions of the fairly new restaurants into self-service eateries by month's end.

The Des Moines Register reported that Hy-Vee plans to convert some of its restaurants into a Market Grille Express concept — where customers will order and pay for their orders at a walk-up counter — throughout November. That will remodel some sites to the style of dine-in facility that existed before the Market Grille makeovers, with self-serve drink stations as well. Area stores that will be modified are:

  • 2450 E. Euclid Ave., Des Moines
  • 3221 S.E. 14th St., Des Moines
  • 4605 Fleur Drive, Des Moines
  • 1700 Valley West Drive, West Des Moines
  • 1990 Grand Ave., West Des Moines
  • 725 Jordan Creek Parkway, West Des Moines
  • 410 N. Ankeny Blvd., Ankeny

The changes will come with scaled-back breakfast and lunch/dinner menus. The full-service bars will remain, the Register reported.

Hy-Vee spokeswoman Amy McCoy told the Register there will be 43 Market Express sites and 76 Market Express Grille sites by the end of the month and the company is making the changes to meet customer demand for “a quick-eating experience."
