Gunfire Exchange On I-80 Between Suspect, Police: Iowa DCI
A suspect was arrested after shooting at drivers and exchanging gunfire with law enforcement personnel Thursday afternoon.

DES MOINES, IA — One person is in custody tonight after a shooting that involved law enforcement personnel at an Interstate-80 rest stop Thursday afternoon south of Rochester in Cedar County. No injuries were reported.
Authorities in Cedar County received a 911 call of shots fired around 2 p.m. Thursday afternoon. Iowa State Patrol troopers and local law enforcement responded to an area on I-80 east of mile marker 265. The suspect was driving westbound and exited the interstate at the 265 exit, firing more rounds at drivers at the BP gas station, the Iowa Division of Criminal Investigation reported.
Troopers encountered the suspect on County Road X46, located east of the city of Springdale, where they engaged him and exchanged gunfire, the DCI said. After a brief stand-off, troopers and officers were able to take the suspect into custody.

Special Agent Ryan Herman with the DCI told Patch tonight that only one person was involved and no motive for the shooting is known at this time.
He declined to say which agency or agencies were involved in the shooting, citing the ongoing investigation. He told Patch it had not yet been determined how many shots were fired.
