Thanksgiving 2017: What's Open And Closed In The Des Moines Area

Whether you spend Thursday eating and Friday recovering or you shop nonstop over the holiday, here's what will be open and closed.

It's almost time to sit down with the family and feast on turkey, stuffing, mashed potatoes and pumpkin pie. While some people — including employees at some retail stores — will be working on the holiday, many area businesses and offices will be closed, giving workers a day off.

Here are the holiday schedules in effect this week:

Animal shelters: City of Des Moines Animal Care and Control Center stray dropoff and all Animal Rescue League of Iowa adoption sites will be closed Thursday.
