UPS Driver Saves Family From House Fire, Finishes Delivery Route

When the truck driver noticed smoke coming from a house while driving by, he stopped to rescue a man, a child and their dog from a blaze.

DES MOINES, IA — A UPS driver saved a child, a man and their dog from their burning home Thursday afternoon, fire officials said. Driver Jeremy Brandt noticed smoke coming from the side of a house along his route Thursday and stopped his truck in the 1800 block of Allison Drive, WHO-TV reported.

Brandt walked up to the house and began banging on the door, fire officials said. The homeowner and his young child had been asleep inside.

"He came out with a baby and I made sure that no one else was in the house," Brandt told the Des Moines NBC affiliate.

"Just the dog was in there," he said. "I held the baby and he opened the gate and let the dog out."

The man, his child and their dog all managed to make it out of the home with no injury, according to WHO. The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
