DART offers free rides to cooling shelters
Area transit service offers free rides to area cooling shelters.
Residents trying to reach cooling shelters in Polk County can ride for free on DART buses. Paratransit-approved riders can use DART’s paratransit services to reach the cooling shelters. To ride for free, passengers should tell the bus operator that they are going to the cooling shelter. The following is a list of cooling shelters and the routes on which they can be accessed:
• Altoona Public Library: Route 99, 17
• Ankeny Main Fire Department: Route 98
• Clive Public Library: Route 93
• Johnston Public Library: Route 93
• Urbandale Public Library: Route 93
• Creative Visions, Merle Hay Mall: Route 14, 16, 51, 92
• Valley West Mall: Routes 3, 52, 72, 74
• Southridge Mall: Routes 6, 7
• Jordan Creek Mall: Routes 52, 72, 96
