Johnston Police Department Seeking Additional Officers

The department of 29 sworn officers is accepting applications from candidates interested in community policing and citizen engagement.

JOHNSTON, IA — The Johnston Police Department is looking to add officers and is accepting applications now. The department currently has 29 sworn officers serving a community of about 21,000.

Law enforcement professionals interested in applying must be certified and demonstrate professionalism and a commitment to community policing, while being proactive and creating citizen engagement. The department will offer a starting salary as high as $67,051, dependent upon qualifications, and up to $2,500 incentive pay upon successful completion of field training.

Johnston police officers work in a cycle of six days on, three days off. Officers accrue personal time off bi-weekly, with more than four weeks earned per year. A two-week in-house training academy is followed by an abbreviated field training program for veteran personnel.
