Johnston Prep to Become Family's Fifth to Play Division I Athletics

Jay Knuth, a 6-foot-6 senior, said he has committed to play basketball at Loyola University in Chicago.

A Johnston prep basketball player said he expects to join a growing legacy of family members to play Division I college athletics.

Jay Knuth, a 6-foot-6 senior, said he plans to play at Loyola University in Chicago, he told the Des Moines Register. He would be the fifth family member to play at the Division I college level, according to the Register report.

His Twitter account is updated to say, "University of Loyola Chicago Commit...Making dreams become a reality on the hardwood."

Here's his family legacy according to the Register report:

His father, Jim, played football at Iowa State. Mom Dawn played basketball at Drake. His two older sisters, Taylor and Tory, both have played volleyball at Iowa State.

“I was always interested in it,” Knuth told the Register. “Basketball always was something I loved and always wanted to be a part of.”

Knuth is listed as a small forward, who plays AAU basketball for Kingdom Hoops. The Sunday Register named him third-team all-state as a center.
