Johnston Promotes McClain To Sergeant In Police Department

Cale McClain, also an active member of the Iowa Army National Guard, joined the Johnston Police Department in 2011.

JOHNSTON, IA - From The Johnston Police Department: The Johnston Police Department’s newest supervisor, Cale McClain will move up the ranks to receive his Sergeant badge during the City Council meeting on Monday, December 4, 2017.

“Cale has a wealth of training, experience and determination to provide exceptional leadership for the officers within our department,” said Police Chief Dennis McDaniel. “I am confident McClain’s promotion will advance what I already believe is a great team of leaders. His experience will not only make him a great Sergeant, but his dedication and willingness to help others become exceptional at what they do is superior.”

Sgt. Cale McClain is a native of Iowa. A 2008 graduate of the Iowa Law Enforcement Academy, McClain began his career with the Anita Police Department. In 2009, he became a Deputy with the Adair County Sheriff’s Office, and in 2011 he joined the Johnston Police Department.

Since joining the Johnston Police Department, Sgt. McClain has worked as a field training officer, officer-in-charge, stop-stick instructor, and field sobriety instructor. In 2016, Sgt. McClain was appointed to the Investigations Unit as a general crimes Detective. During his time in investigations, he worked on a wide range of cases from indictable misdemeanors to sex assaults, robberies, and homicides.

In addition to his employment with the Johnston Police Department, Sgt. McClain is also an active member of the Iowa Army National Guard and serves as a Sergeant and Team Leader with 2nd Brigade 34th Infantry Division. Sgt. McClain leads air space clearance for 3,000 soldiers whose primary job is coordinating air defense and air space management at a brigade level.

McClain was recently honored with the Distinguished Leadership Award from the Iowa National Guard for finishing at the top of his class in his leadership development course.

The badge pinning for McClain is scheduled for 7:00 p.m. on Monday, December 4, 2017 in the Johnston City Hall Council Chambers, located at 6221 Merle Hay Road.
