Man Whose Son Brought Gun to Johnston Elementary School Gets Probation, Fine

On May 7, police were called to Lawson Elementary School in Johnston shortly before noon after an 8-year-old boy brought a gun to school.

A Johnston man whose 8-year-old son took a gun to school will receive probation and a $940 fine.

On May 7, police were called to Lawson Elementary School in Johnston shortly before noon.  The gun found on the child was not loaded and no one was injured. 

Louis Friestad IV, 31, was charged with facing four counts of neglect and one count of making a pistol, revolver or ammunition available to a person under 21.

The Des Moines Register reported in July he pleaded guilty to lesser charges to avoid a trial. Friestad pleaded guilty to making a pistol, revolver or ammunition available to a person under 21 and to one count of child endangerment.
