Severe Weather Advisory: Wicked Winds Whip Johnston

We've already reached the high today, and it's expected to feel as cold as -25 below zero for the next day or so.

Johnston and the rest of Polk and Dallas counties are under a wind chill advisory through Friday noon as gusty northwest winds will plummet the feel-like temperature to as low as 20 to 25 below zero this morning.

The cold temperatures will remain at 20 to 30 below zero this afternoon through Friday morning, the National Weather Service. The actual temperature tonight is expected to be around -8.

In the advisory, the Weather Service cautioned that exposed skin will freeze quickly in such cold temperatures and frostbite is likely with prolonged exposure to the arctic air.

Snow returns to the forecast Friday, when there’s a 30 percent of light snow in the afternoon. Less than half an inch of new snow is expected.  Actual temperatures will recover to the 20s, but wind chill values will remain in the dangerous -20 below zero.
