Shout Out: Johnston Qualifies for Iowa State Softball Tourney
The Dragons face the Valley Tigers on July 23 in the first round of the Iowa state softball tournament.

The Johnston Dragons softball team qualified for the state tournament with an 8-3 win July 16 over Waukee.
Johnston's first game at the state tournament will be at 7 p.m. Tuesday, July 23, in Fort Dodge against Valley High School of West Des Moines.
The Dragons are coached by Todd Merical, Destiny Willer and Abby Sonner.Â
According to SportsSpotlight.com, a young Johnston team is seventh in the rankings. The website says: "Freshman Haley Towers will toe the rubber for the Dragons with a 19-5 record and 1.20 E.R.A. with 174 strikeouts in 163 innings. A pre-freshman leads the way at the plate with doubles (16) and batting average (.437)."
