Back to School time is here again! This is a very exciting time for children, but can be stressful for families. Here are some tips from Quakerdale Family Support Specialists on how you can make the transition to school easier for your child.

Helpful tips for parents, part two: once school starts:
1. Settle into a schedule. You must create an environment for success. Work together with your child on what their schedule will look like before and after school. Talk about where they will go and who will drop them off and pick them up. Whether it is snack time first then homework, dinner and relaxation or homework first, then snack and family time – do whatever works for you. Planning truly helps!

2. Keep up on school activities and events. Go through the information sent home from school with your child, including notes, flyers and newsletters. School websites are also a great resource for information.

3. Stay in touch with your child. Make sure to be aware of their moods and behaviors and be open and honest with your communication. Bad moods happen, and transitions can make things harder, but if your child displays increased signs in aggression, sadness, depression, or more there may be something else going on.
4. We are always here to help! Quakerdale provides a broad array of support and education opportunities for kids and families that can be customized to meet their needs. More information, including how to make a referral is available on our website: www.quakerdale.org
