Brace Yourself: GOP to Pay $1 Million for Political Ads in Eastern Iowa

The National Republican Congressional Committee has paid for $1 million worth of television advertisement time in eastern Iowa alone.

As Iowans, we treat seasonal political attack ads like any commercial: we ignore them because we'd rather watch Mad Men when it airs rather than wait for the DVD.

But we know it's that time of the year again, when the airwaves are full of political ads.

The National Republican Congressional Committee has recently bought up $1 million in advertisements for two eastern Iowa races, according to a story from KCRG.

The committee, chaired by Rep. Pete Sessions, R-Texas, has committed $356,800 in advertisements to benefit Ben Lange's campaign in Iowa's 1st House District against Rep. Bruce Braley, and $719,130 for the race in Iowa's 2nd House District, with Rep. Dave Loebsack battling to keep his seat from Republican challenger John Archer.

Democrats Loebsack and Braley are projected to win, but both races are expected to be competitive.

Braley said he expected such a financial injection into the race, but Loebsack sent a campaign email expressing a little more urgency.

"I wouldn’t be writing if this weren’t important," the email read. "They think they can win. We need to show them they can’t."
