Braley Campaign Slams Lange's 'Silence' on Akin's Rape Comments

1st District Representative Bruce Braley's campaign denounced a recent comment on rape by U.S. Rep. Todd Akin and accused opponent Ben Lange of being "silent" on the issue.

Iowa's 1st District Representative Bruce Braley denounced his opponent's "silence" on a recent comment on rape made by .

The Democratic incumbent condemned Akin's comments on "legitimate rape" Wednesday and inferred that his Republican opponent, Ben Lange, might share the views of Akin and his supporters, according to the Des Moines Register.

"Todd Akin’s comments are revolting and wrong, yet Ben Lange has remained silent," Braley campaign manager Jeff Giertz said in a release. "Does Ben Lange agree with Steve King or with Tom Latham? Will Ben Lange immediately denounce Todd Akin’s remarks?"

Lange responded to a query from the Des Moines Register, despite the accusation of silence.

"As a dad to three little girls, I condemn Congressman Akin’s recent remarks — period," Lange told the Des Moines Reigster.
