Spice Up Your Swing Smashup with Step Into Swing in Des Moines on October 15!

Step into swing—or spice up your swing dance technique—at our Fall Into Swing dance event, which will lift the roof all day and evening at the Des Moines Ballroom, 2745 Douglas Avenue in Des Moines, Iowa.

Classes include switching roles, involving the skills of dance leading or following; steals and jam fundamentals, and musicality and creativity, which involves learning how to listen to the music and spurring one’s dance creativity. For beginners, there is a 45-minute class which serves as an introduction to swing, at 1 p.m.; followed by a one-hour class which teaches dance students how to expand their moves.
An evening dance, from 8 p.m. to 11 p.m., will feature live music provided by the Smash-Up Swing Band. The centerpiece of this dance will be the Jill & Jack (switching roles) contest. Winners of this contest will receive $20 off the Heartland 2017 Dance pass. After the party, there will be a late night slow groove dance.
The cost of the pass for the all-day event is $60 with advance registration, $70 at the door. For a two-hour class block, the cost is $25. The cost of the dance only is $10.00. Participants who register in advance should go to http://www.stepintoswing.com and then go to the Swing Smash-Up link at the top of the page. Participants pay on the day of the event. The discount applies only to the all-day pass.
The Des Moines Ballroom is located on Douglas Avenue on the north side of Des MOines. To get to the ballroom from Interstate-35/80, exit Interstate 35/80 at Merle Hay Road, exit 131(Interstate 80) exit 79 (Interstate 35). Go south on Merle Hay Road to Douglas Avenue. Go east on Douglas Avenue beyond Lower Beaver Road. The Des Moines Ballroom is on the north side of Douglas Avenue, before reaching the Plaza Lanes.
