Marion Road 'Blows-Up' Under Last Week's Intense Heat

Linn County Engineer Steve Gannon said that last week's heat wave caused a road blow-up on North 10th Street.

Last week's heat wave put more stress on our city's roads than our air conditioners, apparently.

Linn County Engineer Steve Gannon said construction crews are working on a road "blow-up" that occurred on North 10th Street over the weekend.

For those of you that are unfamiliar, this occurs when moisture seeps into a roadway in cracks or joints, which is then exposed to excessive heat, causing the pavement to crack and, well, "blow up."

Gannon said that crews will likely finish the reconstruction later today, but warned that the process might take another day.

Oh, and Gannon added that we're apparently the only city in Linn County to have a blow-up from last week's monstrous heat, so there's that, too.
