How To Find A Chiropractor In Cedar Rapids

You’re in pain.  You’ve tried stretching and pain pills and nothing seems to be helping. You’re thinking about going to a chiropractor, but not sure who to go to.  You get online to search for a chiropractor and 50+ results pop up! The thought of choosing a chiropractor now seems like a daunting task!

The chiropractic profession has a wide variety of practice philosophies and techniques, to say the very least.  When considering a chiropractor you need to give consideration to many aspects of care, like, certifications, treatment programs, adjusting styles, and doctor rapport. So what chiropractor will fit you?

To start your search for the right chiropractor, check in with family and friends.  Who do they go to?  What was the experience like? What were the results?  If friends and family recommend a chiropractor, chances are you will like him as well.

If talking with family and friends fail to provide you with a chiropractor to check in with, look online to see ratings and reviews.  When searching on Google, ratings and reviews should be listed underneath the listing for the chiropractor, or clinic.  Read a few of them, see who the highest rated are, see who the most reviewed are, and select a few that look good.  (You can also type in  a something specific like “sport chiropractor cedar rapids,” “female chiropractor,” or “shoulder pain cedar rapids” to further narrow down your criteria and search.)

Visit their website and see what you find.  Read the chiropractors bio and check the techniques and procedures of the clinic.  You can also check to see if the chiropractor has ever had any legal issues, past or present, by checking with the state’s Chiropractic Regulation and Licensing Board.

If after doing this, you are still unsure of scheduling an appointment, call the clinic and set up an interview with the chiropractor.  Ask questions that are important to you.  Questions to consider may be one one or more of the following:

  • What type of clinic is it?
  • Is the clinic “wellness” based(long term treatment plans) or pain management (short term care)?
  • Is it chiropractic adjusting only or do they offer additional services or techniques?
  • What are the techniques offered, what are they like, and why do they use those?
  • Does the chiropractor have additional certifications?
  • Do they accept your insurance or is it cash only?
  • Do they offer supplements or other products?

After all this, if you are still uneasy about scheduling, the chiropractor probably isn’t the right fit for you.  You should have developed a good rapport with the chiropractor and confident in  making an appointment after speaking with him.

Some things to look out for when talking with a chiropractor include:

  • The chiropractor claiming to have developed his own technique.
  • The chiropractor claims to be able to cure conditions like asthma, diabetes, and other chronic conditions.
  • Long term treatment plans extended out more than a few weeks (example 3x per week for 6 months)
  • As a general rule, within 1 to 4 weeks of starting a chiropractic treatment program for most conditions, the patient should typically feel a reduction in pain between 40 and 80%.
  • Also, in general, in the absence of worsening conditions during chiropractic care, a common chiropractic program is 2-3 times per week for 2 to 4 weeks, followed by a re-evaluation. Tapering of treatment frequency as symptoms reduce is also good practice.
  • Prepayment for unlimited chiropractic.
  • The chiropractor recommends the same type of treatment for every patient regardless of condition.
  • Pressure to use nutritional supplements, purchase other products in the clinic, or sign up for care.

The bottom line is to use good judgement in choosing a chiropractor, as you should for choosing any healthcare provider.  Searching and finding out more information about the chiropractor, prior to scheduling an appointment, will ultimately provide you with a better experience and results.  Follow these guidelines, and find the right chiropractor for you!
