The man was transported to the hospital with what are believed to be non-life threatening injuries.

A Linn County man was hit by a car Monday evening and transported to St. Luke's Hospital for non-life threatening injuries after he allegedly failed to stop for a stop sign while riding his bike.

According to the Linn County Sheriff's Department, at 5:37 p.m. Linn County Sheriff’s Deputies and Linn County Rescue 57 along with the Ely Fire Department and Area Ambulance Service responded to a report of a personal injury accident involving a vehicle and a bicycle at the intersection of Dows and Mains Streets in Ely.

When emergency responders arrived, they found a man who had been hit and knocked of his bicycle at the intersection. The rider, Christopher Webster, 45, of Ely, was reportedly on Main Street going south when he was struck by a vehicle being driven west on Dows Street by Keith Neubauer, 42, of Swisher.  Neubauer was also driving with his 13-year-old daughter as a passenger at the time, according to the release.

Webster was transported to St Lukes Hospital for what was believed to be non-life threatening injuries. He was not wearing a helmet. The
Neubauer’s were not injured and they were wearing their seatbelts.

According to the release, Webster did not stop at the stop sign at that intersection and was thus held at fault for the accident. He was issued a citation for “Bicyclists Failing To Stop."

The accident remains under investigation by the Linn County Sheriff’s Office.
