With the recent resignation and passing of At Large City Council Member Paul Draper, a vacancy exists on the Marion City Council. The Council intends to fill this vacancy by appointment.

The appointment shall be in place until the next City election in November 2021. Marion voters have the right to file a petition requiring that this vacancy be filled by a special election in the manner set forth in Section 372.13 of the Code of Iowa.

To be eligible for consideration, candidates must be a registered voter of the City of Marion. Those eligible and interested in filling the vacancy must submit a resume and write a letter of application expressing ones desire to be considered for appointment. Credentials should be addressed to the City Council in care of the City Clerk at Marion City Hall, 1225 6th Avenue, Marion, Iowa 52302.

Applications must be received in the office of the City Clerk by noon on Thursday, March 12, 2020. Action concerning the appointment is expected at the City Council meeting on Thursday, March 19.
