No Fire Deaths in 2011, Marion Fire Department Receives Award

The Marion Fire Department recently received the Life Safety Achievement Award designation due to hours of training and a low fire death rate.

The Marion Fire Department has been presented with the 2011 Life Safety Achievement Award for their hours of "fire prevention activities" and low death rate.

"It is humbling to know that our continuing efforts in fire prevention and community safety have been recognized," said Fire Marshall Jason Hansen in a City of Marion release.

No fire deaths were recorded in Marion during 2011, while officers also logged a combined total of 1,600 hours of fire prevention activities, which include public education events that reached approximately 18 percent of Marion residents last year.
