Marion Street Closings, Pavings and Bright Red Bricks — Central Corridor Project
The City of Marion and Anderson Bogart have provided an update to the massive construction that's set to give Marion's downtown a facelift.

Work Advances to 12th Street

Beginning Thursday, crews with Rathje Construction Co. will be allowed to close the 12th Street intersection between the hours of 7 a.m. and 5 p.m. This will allow storm sewer installation to continue in the area.

Contractors anticipate opening the 11th Street intersection to traffic within the next two weeks.
Once this intersection is open, the City will allow contractors to completely close the 12th Street intersection for complete reconstruction.
Significant paving took place over the past week.
- Paving in the 11th Street intersection is substantially complete. Paving of the street from 10th Street up to the 12th Street intersection is also now finished. The final sidewalks and ramps in the 10th Street intersection, as well as the last colored crosswalk in the intersection was poured. All four colored crosswalks in the 11th Street intersection are complete.
Significant progress with brick installation adjacent to Marion City Park was made.
- Completion of paving in this block will allow brick installation both behind the curb and in the roadway to continue for several weeks.
Contractors are working to quickly install a four foot sidewalk behind the Marion Square Plaza. Removal of the existing asphalt began Monday morning. Paving of the new sidewalk will be complete by the end of the day. An accelerated schedule was put in place to limit the interruptions to the adjacent businesses.
In the 10thStreet intersection, workers with KWS are now pulling wire for the new traffic signals. These signals will most likely be installed within the next two weeks.
- In the next week, work will continue on the infiltration beds located at 11th Street. Work on the irrigation system in the 1100 block will progress, and paving may begin on several of the areas located behind the curb in this block.
Work continues in Stages 2-4. Contractors have used approximately 78 of the allowed 100 working days. Project work is not expected to be complete within the contract time. Liquidated damages will be assessed for time to complete the work in excess of the specified limits.
