Marion to Consider Extending Additional Sales Tax

City Manager Lon Pluckhahn reported to the City Council that they would get a proposal to consider later this month, and he said he'd start distributing information to the public in September.

Marion leaders are considering extending a local option sales tax, which adds an extra tax on purchases with that proceeds going to special community projects.

City Manager Lon Pluckhahn reported to the City Council that they would get a proposal to consider later this month, and he said he'd start distributing information to the public in September.

Pluckhahn said in a letter to City Council he met with the local option sales tax committee to review the potential usage plan for the tax proceeds if it is extended.

"The committee looked at the breakdown between infrastructure projects and corporate purpose projects, and ultimately unanimously endorsed the split proposed by the council," he said in the letter.
