Braley's campaign official accused Lange of having "fuzzy math." Lange said that regardless of the dollar amount, Braley was not following through with his campaign promise by accepting money from lobbyists.

The Braley campaign fought back by asserting that Braley's promise was not a personal promise to refuse contributions from lobbyist, but to prevent lobbyist from giving contributions to members of congress.
