PHOTOS: Indian Creek 5th Graders Take Field Trip to Camp Wapsie

The 5th graders beat the heat earlier this school year with a trip to the beloved nearby camp.

It might have been hotter than normal when Fifth grade students from Indian Creek Elementary visited Camp Wapsie on their recent field trip, but the students still have a great time!

Students participated in activities including archery, a GPS scavenger hunt, a tree hike with an arborist, canoeing, Frisbee golf and the ever-popular challenge activity – crossing the Burma Bridge.

Activities were fun but also had educational components. Some of the activities even had a direct correlation to curriculum. For instance, the tree hike matched up nicely with the tree unit in 5th grade science.

Crossing the Burma Bridge is a feat that every student was proud to boast about after completing. Many students faced their fears and won by taking on this challenge activity!

All students also took part in a group picnic lunch where a camp director kept spirits high with silly camp songs with coordinated dances. And to make the hot day even more enjoyable, many of the students also benefited from a “new” activity at Camp Wapsie – the “running through the sprinkler station!”
