Sheriff's: Multiple Injuries After BMW Crashes 50 Feet Into Cornfield

Eric Jochum, 38, of Lisbon, was arrested and Ken and Nancy Marriett were taken to the hospital after a one-vehicle crash early Saturday morning.

A drunk man crashed his BMW into a cornfield early this morning, according to Linn County Sheriff's.

Eric S Jochum, 38, of Lisbon, was eastbound on West Mount Vernon Road when he lost control of the 1994 BMW. 

"The vehicle then left the roadway, going into the south ditch, and then continued approximately 50 feet into a cornfield before coming to rest," according to a news release.

The crash occurred this morning at about 2:19 a.m. at 1082 W. Mount Vernon Road. Linn County Sheriff’s Deputies, Mt. Vernon P.D., Mt. Vernon F.D., Lisbon F.D., and Lisbon-Mt. Vernon Ambulance responded to the one vehicle personal injury accident.

Jochum was arrested for Operating While Intoxicated, Fail to Maintain Control, and taken to the Linn County Correction Center.

Passengers in the vehicle Ken M. Marriett, 57, and Nancy L. Marriett, 59, both of Lisbon by Lisbon-Mt. Vernon Ambulance to Mercy Hospital in Cedar Rapids with what appeared to be non-life threatening injuries. A third passenger in the vehicle wasn’t injured. Eric Jochum and Ken Marriett were wearing their safety belts.
