Sheriffs Rescue 12-Year-Old From Wapsipinicon River

From Linn County Sheriff's:

On June 26, 2013, at approximately 1533 hours, Linn County Deputies were dispatched to Sutton Rd ¼ mile south of Seven Hills Rd reference a juvenile male that had waded into the Wapsipinicon River and then was unable to return to shore.

Upon their arrival, deputies found that a 12 year old male had waded into the flood waters of the Wapsipinicon River and then due to the rising water and swift current, was unable to return to dry land. A determination was made to enact a water rescue and a Linn County Conservation Resource Officer responded with a boat.

The boat was used to rescue the juvenile and bring him back to the road. The juvenile suffered no injuries.

The Linn County Sheriff wants to remind all citizens that a flooded river is no place to play. Swift currents, dangerous undertows and eroded roadways can result in injury or death to those that are caught up in them. Parents should instruct their children that flooded roadways and rivers are not a playground.
