This Chinese Community Could Soon Be Your Sister, Marion

Marion leaders are considering forming a sister city partnership with a community in the southeastern portion of China.

An unnamed local business owner proposed the relationship with Wuzhou, China, a city of about 1.3 million people, according to a memo in the City Council packet from Marion City Manager Lon Pluckhahn.

Leaders from Wuzhou have already reached out to Marion by email, but the discussion appears to be in the early stages.

"They are actively forming sister city relationships with communities across the globe, and have already reached out to me in an email," Pluckhahn said in the memo.

Pluckhahn said they will be sending information to Wuzhou, and will provide updates about the relationship.
