Three Injured in Accident at the Intersection of Hwy 13 at Cedar Woods Road
None of the injuries appear to be life threatening.

At about 1:15 p.m. Friday, the Mt Vernon Fire Department, Mt. Vernon Ambulance, Mt. Vernon Police Department Iowa State Patrol, Linn County Rescue 57, and Linn County Deputies were dispatched to a 3 vehicle accident on Highway 13 at Cedar Woods Road.Â
Officers arrived to find an accident at the scene. Investigation revealed that a 1991 GMC (20 ton) Roll-away Truck driven by Clayton Hollingshead, 56 ,of Anamosa, was heading northbound on Highway 13 when he attempted to avoid a 1998 GMC Pickup driven by Gary Jones, 51, of Cedar Rapids which had slowed to turn east on Cedar Woods Road striking a 2001 Chevy (Delivery) Van driven by Marc Middleton, 26, of Cedar Rapids, which then struck the 1998 GMC.
The collision caused the 2001 Chevy Van to overturn in the northbound lanes of Highway 13; the Roll-away Truck crossed the median, the Highway 13 southbound lanes, and overturned in the west ditch. Â The 1998 GMC Pickup was able to stop along Highway 13 northbound. Â Â Â Middleton is transported to Mercy Hospital in Cedar Rapids by Mt. Vernon Ambulance for what appeared to be non-life-threatening injuries.

The other drivers and a passenger declined medical attention at the scene. All occupants were wearing their safety belts at the time of the accident.  The accident remains under investigation by the Linn County Sheriff’s Office.
