7. Cedar Falls Patch reports that Waterloo Police alerted the public after an abduction attempt was reported. Police said a 9-year-old girl was walking home from a local elementary when a black van stopped her, a female passenger got out and grabbed the girl by the collar of her coat. Authorities said the girl got away and the woman got back in the van and took off.
6. An Urbandale teen reluctantly stepped into the spotlight at a school assembly recognizing the Iowa winner for her entry in Doodle 4 Google, the giant technology company’s contest to redesign its iconic homepage logo.

5. Seven juveniles were arrested and charged after they detonated a “works bomb” at a West Des Moines home that has been targeted in the past.
4. Waukee City Council members favored reappointing Isaiah McGee, a professional consultant who served five years on the board, and indicated they would formally reappoint him at a future meeting. McGee would take over for a City Council member who resigned for personal reasons.

1. Marion Patch reports, a Linn-Mar high school junior toppled a 34-year Drake Relay record. Josh Evans ran the 1,600 meters on Saturday with a time of 4:10.86, took down the old mark from 1979 and ranks No. 7 nationally. The run earned Evans the Drake Relays Most Outstanding Performer among males.
