UPDATE: Fallen Tree Caused Marion Power Outage, Power Since Restored

At approximately 8:30 p.m. today, two loud explosion-like blasts were heard, followed by a power outage to a yet unknown area of Marion.

Update:

Alliant Energy Spokesperson Scott Drzycimski said this evening's power outage was caused by a tree falling on a power line on the corner of Fourth Avenue and Sixth Street in Marion.

He said the outage occurred at 8:25 p.m. and was restored by 9:20 p.m.

All told, nearly 700 energy customers were without power.

At around 8:30 p.m., two loud blasts of noise, possibly blown transformers, were heard in Marion, specifically the west side of Marion.

The power flickered on and off before shutting off completely.

It's yet unknown how many are without power or what caused the outage.
