What's the Deal with That Huge Bug Made of Garbage in Uptown Marion?
There's a gigantic bug made of trash in Marion's downtown, near the Marion Heritage Center. This is a story where I tell you what it is and why it is there.
Let's address the elephant in the room.
There's a giant bug made of garbage outside the Marion Heritage Center. You know it, I know it, lord knows what it is.
Turns out it's a replica of a dung beetle made entirely of recycled material, according to the Marion Heritage Center's new director, Lynette Brenzel.

It's a part of a new exhibit — Waste Not, Want Not — that focuses on recyclable material.Â
The bug is actually a dung beetle, designed by German artist Mo Flow-den and built with assistance from Metro High School students, according to KWWL. The materials that make up the beautiful monstrosity are made from donated leftovers from the Echo-Arts Fest in Cedar Rapids.

Brenzel said since the dung beetle makes use of some of the most unsavory by enviromental bi-products, it well represents the goal of recycling.
To see the exhibit, stop by the Marion Heritage Center from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. on Wednesdays through Sundays.
