Billboard to Protect Social Security Rolls into Town for Debate

A truck billboard that says "No Cuts" to Social Security and Medicare benefits will be parked near Drake University's Sheslow Auditorium before the Republican presidential candidates' debate Saturday.

 

One of the largest senior advocacy organizations in the country has dispatched its mobile billboard to Des Moines to remind Republican presidential candidates that the majority of Americans oppose proposals to privatize Social Security and Medicare.

The mobile billboard shown in the YouTube video (to the right) will be in Des Moines on Dec. 8-12 and is operated by the National Committee to Preserve Social Security and Medicare (NCPSSM), which says it has 36,000 members and supporters in the state.

Senior activists from the Iowa Citizens for Community Improvement Action Fund will help kick off the National Committee's mobile billboard campaign at today at the Iowa Citizens for Community Improvement (CCI) office, 2001 Forest Ave.  

The billboard will travel to the Des Moines area, focusing on Drake University for Saturday's ABC News GOP debate where a group of 100 Iowans plan to gather outside the Drake University auditorium with the billboard between 5 and 7 p.m.
