TUESDAY: The Urbandale City Council approves the next step in seeking a federal grant that would pay for half of the cost of building a $1.6 million shelter house and tornado shelter in Walker Johnston Park. Tom Gayman is the lone vote against the shelter, saying later that spending $1.6 million for a park shelter is "ludicrous."

WEDNESDAY: A runaway tree-trimming truck rolled into an Urbandale condominium, knocking out supports to the deck of the unit above it Wednesday afternoon. It's the second time in a year this has happened to this particular condo.

SATURDAY: Urbandale has its first fatal house fire in more than 14 years Saturday morning and officials said their investigation points to the victim starting the fire himself.
