Enter the Urbandale Centennial logo contest

To kick off the celebration of Urbandale’s 100th anniversary, the Urbandale Centennial Steering Committee is conducting a logo contest for individuals of all ages who have a current or previous vested interest in Urbandale, either by residence, business or community involvement.

Co-chairs E. J. Giovannetti and Scott Raecker have announced that for the participants’ efforts, there will be “real prize money.” Finalists will be chosen in three categories: Ages 12 and younger, Ages 13 to 18 and Ages 19 and older. Each finalist will be awarded $100, and the winner will receive $250.

“A contest deadline of Oct. 31, 2014, has been set for the receipt of entries, so participants need to get started and create their masterpieces,” Giovannetti said.

The committee is also taking applications for a sponsor of the logo contest. The selected sponsor will assist in choosing the winning logo and will receive naming rights in marketing associated with the contest.

The actual anniversary date of Urbandale’s incorporation as a city is April 16, 2017, but the Urbandale Centennial Steering Committee is planning a year-long celebration starting July 4, 2016, and ending July 4, 2017. Activities led by local organizations, businesses or neighborhoods will take place throughout the year, culminated by a gala on July 1 and festivities on July 4, 2017.

“We want a celebration that honors Urbandale’s past, celebrates the present and embraces the future,” Raecker said.

The winning logo will become the property of the Urbandale Community Action Network (UCAN), which is the parent organization of the Centennial Steering Committee. The logo may be used on letterhead, Web sites, signage, T-shirts, memorabilia and other related items.
