1. CHILDRENS CHRISTMAS PARTY

Why Go: Parents, grandparents, and friends are invited to this Christmas program by and for the school's preschoolers.

2. DES MOINES BUCCANEERS VS. WATERLOO BLACKHAWKS

Where/When: , 7201 Hickman Road, Urbandale; Friday at 7:05 p.m.

Why Go: It's a rockin' and rollin' good time.

3. COOKIES FOR SANTA

Where/When: Senior Center, 7305 Aurora Ave., Urbandale. Saturday at  10 a.m.

Why Go: Children ages 3 to 8 (with parent supervision) can decorate Christmas cookies to take home for Santa. Please bring a container to take the cookies home. If you haven't registered for this event, call the Urbandale Parks and Recreation Department.

4. OLD-FASHIONED GIFT-GIVING EVENT

Where/When: gift shop, Saturday, beginning at noon.

Why Go: Enjoy Christmas cookies and hot cider while shopping for stocking stuffers at the Iowa gift store. Children can decorate their own stocking to take home or help out in Santa's Workshop.

5. RYAN SHEELER PERFORMS

Where/When: , 10465 Hickman Road, Urbandale, Saturday at 1 p.m. 

Why Go: Singer/songwriter Ryan Sheeler will perform.
