Flu Shot Clinics Begin in Urbandale

The where, why and who of getting a flu shot this month in Urbandale.

Polk County Health Flu Shot Clinics, $15

  • Oct. 12, 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Urbandale Senior Center, 7305 Aurora Ave.
  • Oct, 19, 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. at , 7111 Aurora Ave.

To speed up the process at the flu clinics people can download a consent form and bring the completed form to the clinic.

  • Walk-ins Monday-Friday, 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Make an appointment outside those hours by calling 270-2572. Children under 18 must have a doctor's prescription.

  • Available to walk-ins seven days a week during store hours. Walgreens closes at 10 p.m. on weekdays and 6 p.m. on weekends. Children under 18 must have a doctor's prescription. Or schedule an appointment.

  • “When a high percentage of the community has been vaccinated against a contagious disease like influenza it is very difficult for it to be spread from person to person. But, in most years, fewer than one in three adults gets vaccinated against influenza.” said Terri Henkels, Polk County Health Department director.  A full schedule of clinics is online.

  • Anyone over the age of six months. Some groups of people also are encouraged to get a pneumonia shot.
