In Fundraiser Battle Between Urbandale And Ankeny High Schools, Combat Hunger Is The Winner
Students at Urbandale and Ankeny high schools are holding fundraising events all week to see which can do the most to support Combat Hunger.

URBANDALE, IA — Students at two area high schools are in a battle this week to see which one can do the most to support Iowa's hungry. A fundraiser competition that pits the two schools' students against one another will have one clear winner: Combat Hunger.
Urbandale High School and Ankeny High School are raising money in partnership with Star 102.5 radio, which began the Combat Hunger campaign 25 years ago. The radio station is providing morning updates this week with students from both schools.
The two teams will end the competition prior to a gridiron battle Friday night as Urbandale hosts Ankeny at Frerichs Field at 7 p.m.

The Student Senate at Urbandale hopes to raise $1,500, which will provide 6,000 meals to those in need. They will accept cash donations prior to the game, along with non-perishable food items. Student Senate members will be in front of the stadium to take the contributions and Star 102.5 will broadcast there from 5 to 7 p.m.

The winner of the Combat Hunger rivalry will be announced during the game.
Combat Hunger is the state's largest food drive, according to the Food Bank of Iowa website. Food collections are held at businesses and offices throughout central Iowa leading up to a two-day encampment on 12th Street in downtown Des Moines, where items may be dropped off. This year's event will be Nov. 16 and 17.
Individuals and teams also may sign up online to help support Combat Hunger through a virtual food drive.
