Hy-Vee Adds Greenhouse to Urbandale Super Store

can start construction on a 4,080-square-foot greenhouse to be built just east of the new grocery store.

The greenhouse will be on the northeast corner of the Hy-Vee lot, just east of the proposed outdoor garden center, according to a site plan approved Tuesday night by the Urbandale City Council.

The plan states that the greenhouse will be predominately glass, with brick matching the new grocery store. Urbandale Planning Director Paul Dekker said it will be the only enclosed greenhouse in the Hy-Vee chain. 

The plan shows the greenhouse at the northeast corner of the lot and a new Hy-Vee fuel station and convenience store at the southeast corner.

Hy-Vee managers have said the store before the new store's grand opening in mid-August. During that time, the old store will be demolished, and a new parking lot will be paved.
